Frequently Asked Questions

(The answer is probably "ride your bike more.")

Category 1: General

What is BountyBuy?

BountyBuy is a cycling-centric marketplace where you can submit Requests for something you want to purchase--whether it's a bike, components, or bike-related services. Potential Sellers from all over see your Requests and respond back to you if they have what you are looking for. We provide the connection, making it easy for you to find the best gear at the best price with zero hassle.

You can also keep up with the latest trends and events in the cycling world by following our blog--we like to take an active role in promoting safety and bicycle advocacy, and that's where it starts.

What is that green stuff growing in the back of my refrigerator?

We honestly don't know. However, we do know that if you take the time to clean it, eventually it'll just grow back. So you should probably just ride your bike instead. What's that? You need a new bike? I bet we can help you with that.

What's the best kind of bike for me?

The kind of bike that makes you want to ride more. Not specific enough? Give us a shout at supportninjas@bountybuy.com and we'll help you work out what bike is best for you.

What is a Request?

A Request is basically a free “wanted” ad. We ask you a few questions and provide some easy-to-fill-out templates if you want to use them. You can even let us know what you are willing to pay, add pictures, and just about anything else that will help clarify what you are looking for. Once you submit your information, a real human reads it (Crazy, right? We have a bunch of real people, right in this office). We hook you up with bike shops and individual Sellers who have what you asked for, and give them the chance to make you an Offer.

If Sellers need additional information from you, they'll comment on your Request page. You can see these questions and everything regarding your Requests in the "My Requests" section in your profile.

What is an Offer?

An Offer is a Seller's response to your Request. They may have exactly what you wanted, or something that's just as good but less pricey. You always have the option to reject an Offer, and if you have questions about it, you can ask the Seller. You'll probably get Offers from multiple Sellers (depending on your Request), so you can compare prices and perks. Feedback from previous Buyers will show up on the Seller's page to make your decision easier.

How do I pay once I accept an Offer?

When you accept an Offer, BountyBuy will ask you for payment information (on a secure page, of course!) and create a payment voucher. You must print the voucher and take it with you when you go to pick up your equipment. The Seller will not release the equipment to you until you give them the voucher.

Please note: If you redeem your voucher for an item that turns out to be defective, only the Seller’s or the manufacturer's warranties apply. BountyBuy cannot refund your payments in those circumstances. We can only make refunds in the event that you do not accept the equipment, or the Seller refuses to honor your valid voucher.

What If I'm late picking up my stuff?

If you don't pick up your items within the time frame you agreed to, the transaction will be canceled, and your payment will be refunded.

If you are unable to pick up your equipment, simply retain your voucher and let us know. You will be entitled to a full refund once we have verified with the Seller that no equipment changed hands.

What if the Seller won't take my voucher?

If for any reason the Seller does not honor your voucher, contact us immediately at supportninjas@bountybuy.com. We will determine whether your voucher was valid, and arrange for a full refund if the Seller did not honor your valid voucher.

What is feedback?

At the end of every transaction, Buyers are asked to provide feedback about their experience on scale of 1 to 5 stars. Buyers are also asked for short reviews about the Seller they dealt with and their overall BountyBuy experience. We really appreciate it when people take the time to do this--it helps everyone in the community to reward good service.

Category 3: Sellers

What is a Request?

A Request contains specific information about equipment a Buyer is looking for, including how much a Buyer is willing to spend. Once they submit their information, we review the Request and forward it to Sellers who have indicated that they carry such items.

You can receive Requests numerous different ways. You can get messages sent to a mobile device, have emails sent on a regular basis that contain relevant Requests, or you can monitor the “Requests Received” tab in your profile.

What is an Offer?

An Offer is your reply to a Buyer's Request. You can either match their Requested price or set the price you are willing to accept. If you don't have the exact product they Requested, but have something that you feel would be acceptable (especially if it's a better deal), go for it! Unless the Buyer has a very specific Request, they will usually appreciate a good deal on something of equivalent value.

Additionally, you can provide any other information that might help you stand out from other Sellers. You can explain how your warranty works, what additional offers you provide, or let the Buyer know about additional equipment they may be interested in. How you market yourself is up to you. We want you to build long-lasting relationships with these potential new customers.

How do I reply to a Request with an Offer?

It's simple. Just click on the Request you are interested in, click the "Make an Offer" button and offer away. You can add as much information as you want, include a picture, and talk about the benefits a Buyer will get by choosing to purchase their equipment from you.

You can always revise an initial Offer as needed. The Offer is not a deal until both you and the Buyer agree to terms.

You can also set an expiration date for the Offer. No deal is good forever, and we understand that.

What if I need additional information from a Buyer before I can make an Offer?

If you need additional information before you can make an Offer, leave a comment on the Request page (located near the bottom of the Request page). Just ask the Buyer for the information you need, and they’ll be notified of your comment.

You can always check the latest status of a Request on the "Requests Received" tab in your profile.

How do I get paid?

When you and a Buyer agree on terms, the Buyer needs to accept your Offer. Once they do, we handle their payment information, and create a payment voucher, which the Buyer can then present as proof of purchase. We subtract our fee from the final transaction, but we also handle the credit card fees, so you don’t have to.

When the buyer comes to your store to pick up the equipment, they will bring the voucher to you. Follow the instructions for submitting the voucher and we will pay you via Paypal. We absorb the Paypal fees as well so you get paid the full amount.

What if the Buyer does not want the equipment?

If the deal falls through, the voucher is never exchanged and there is no charge on either side.

What if a Buyer wants additional equipment when they come in to pick up their equipment?

If a Buyer decides to buy additional equipment, just charge them for those items as you would normally do. The voucher will only cover equipment that you agreed to via the accepted Offer on BountyBuy.

I am getting Requests for equipment I don't carry. How can I stop those?

When you sign up with BountyBuy, we ask you what brands you carry and what type of equipment you sell. Additionally, we ask about other services you provide. Based off of the information you provide, we do our best to only forward Requests that are pertinent to you.

We also ask if you would like to see Requests for brands you don't carry so you can make an Offer on a similar item. Sometimes you may have an item that better fits the Buyer's needs, and we want to give you the opportunity to let them know. Please keep in mind that if you check this box during sign-up you will receive more Requests. You can always change this setting if you want to limit the number of Requests you receive.

We try our best to always get it right, but if you continually get Requests for equipment you don't carry, just email us at supportninjas@bountybuy.com.

I am getting too many or too few Requests from potential Buyers. How can I change that?

First check to make sure our list of what you carry is accurate. On your profile page, click “Edit my Profile” and add/remove brands to accurately reflect what you currently carry.

If you are receiving too many Requests for equipment you do not stock, check to see if you marked the box that allows you to see Requests for brands you do not carry. Though this will give you a chance to Offer an item that might better fits the Buyer's needs, you will receive a lot more Requests when this box is checked.

Can I have multiple people on my staff respond to Requests?

Sure, you can have as many people manage and respond to Buyer Requests as you want. However, you will only have one account with BountyBuy. This means that all email correspondence from BountyBuy will come to the primary contact email address you provided when you signed up. If multiple people need to view these emails you should set up a group email address and update that email address with us. Also, all of your involved staff will use the same password to log in and out of BountyBuy to view and respond to Requests and manage Offers. You can always update your password and email in the “Edit Profile” section of our web site.

What is Feedback?

At the end of every transaction, Buyers are asked to provide feedback on a scale of five stars. They are also asked for short reviews of their experience with the Seller. Feedback ratings specific to you are displayed as stars in your Profile for all other Buyers to see.
