This template is designed to help you if you have a specific idea about the bike you want to purchase. If you are not sure of the make or model of bike you want, try this template.

Provide potential sellers with as much information as possible including:

• What brand of bike are you interested in?
• What model?
• What size? or How tall are you?
• What color?
• Some models of bikes have several different levels of components available. If there are certain types of components you are interested in list them. (E.G. Shimano, SRAM or Campagnolo. What level do you want?) Confused about components? Check out our “Components 101” document where we break them down for you). Are there any upgrades you would like to do to the bike?
• Are you interested in other bike brands or models that are similar in style with similar components and in the same price range?
• What else do you need with the bike (E.G. helmet, spare tubes, bike pump, a saddle, bike clothing, etc...)? Include a full list. Many shops will give you a better package deal if you buy everything you need at one time.

Keep in mind you will always be able to communicate back and forth with interested sellers to lock down the exact bike you want, but by including as much of the above information as possible, you should be able to minimize the amount of communication required later on.

This template is designed to help you provide the most common information needed when buying a bike for a child. Childrens bike can vary quite a bit and we hope the questions below will help assure you get the right type of bike for them.

• How experienced is your child with riding bikes?
• How old is the child?
• How tall is the child?
• Is the child a boy or girl?
• What will the child mainly be using this bike for? (i.e. for fun, riding to school, powering a generator in your front yard to earn their keep, etc...)
• Will the bike be ridden on pavement? dirt? both?
• How long do hope the child can use this bike before they outgrow it?
• Are there any special items you want on the bike? (i.e. training wheels, basket,etc...)
• What else do you need with the bike (E.G. helmet, spare tubes, bike pump, etc...)? Include a full list. Many shops will give you a better package deal if you buy everything you need at one time. Note: Remember that in most states law requires that anyone under the age of 18 must wear a helmet when riding a bicycle.
